Gerasimov’s picture depicts a historical congress that proclaimed the transition of all power in the country to the advice of workers and peasant deputies, who approved decrees about peace and land. Lenin talks with delegates about the transfer of landowner land to the peasants. The significance of what is happening is expressed in deep seriousness with which Lenin peasants listen to. The stingy colors of sheepskin sheepskin coat, soldier’s overcoats, sailor pea jackets in the huge bright hall of Smolny sound a kind of courageous harmony.
